Weekly Update 9/20/19
Piling installation to begin next week.
Piling operations are anticipated to begin as early as September 23. During this work, a rig will be used to drill holes 100 feet below the surface all around the future Rodeo station box. A crane will lower steel beams into each hole, then the hole will be backfilled with concrete to provide support during excavation for the station. This activity will require full-time lane closures on Wilshire and some weekend closures at the Beverly and S. Cañon intersections. K-rail barriers will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the completion of this work, which is expected to be May of next year. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction on Wilshire during this work. For more details, please see Metro’s latest construction notice.
N. Cañon closed at Wilshire.
N. Cañon is no longer accessible from Wilshire. A 20-foot soundwall is being installed at the intersection of N. Cañon and Wilshire in an effort to mitigate traffic and noise for a minimum of two years during major construction. N. Cañon will be reconfigured into a cul-de-sac while pedestrian access will be maintained on both sides of the closure. Sidewalk closures and parking impacts may be required during installation of the closure. Work hours will be weekdays from 7 am to 4 pm and weekends from 8 am to 6 pm when needed.
A four-way traffic signal is being installed at Clifton and Crescent to mitigate anticipated traffic impacts caused by the N. Cañon closure. Installation is expected to last approximately four to five weeks. Work hours will be weekdays from 7 am to 4 pm and weekends from 8 am to 6 pm when needed. This work will require some impacts to traffic lanes, sidewalks, crosswalks, and parking meters at the intersection. Flaggers will be available to help people walking in the area.
Utility work and potholing continues on Wilshire.
Potholing, relocating water lines, and replacing storm drain laterals on Wilshire are in progress between El Camino and Crescent. Work will be done in stages over the next three months and will require some turn restrictions and closures of traffic lanes, crosswalks, and sidewalks. Work hours are weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm and 8:15 pm to 7 am. On weekends, work hours are from 8 am to 8 pm, with noisy activities restricted to 10 am to 6 pm.
Geotechnical instrumentation in progress near Wilshire/Rodeo.
Devices to monitor the effects of excavation and tunneling will be installed at multiple locations around the future Wilshire/Rodeo station. This work will be performed intermittently on weekdays from 7 am to 4 pm over the next few months and may require closures of traffic lanes and sidewalks.
Wilshire/La Cienega Station
Closures anticipated near Wilshire.
The following closures* are scheduled to take place during the upcoming week:
Please use alternative routes and continue to respect construction barriers and detours for your safety.
Concrete and material delivery begins in October.
This month, excavation is expected to be completed and construction will begin on the La Cienega station including concrete placement and material deliveries such as rebar. To support this work, Wilshire will be reduced to two lanes in each direction from 7 am to 4 pm, and one lane in each direction from 9 pm to 7 am. Parking and turn restrictions will also be required.
*Due to the dynamic nature of construction, all dates and times are subject to change.
